We inspected Farjo Hair Institute using our comprehensive inspection methodology. We carried out a short announced inspection on 30 July 2025. We assessed all quality statements from the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions.

Farjo Hair Institute, operated by Advanced Hair Technology Limited since 1993, provides hair transplant cosmetic surgery and platelet-rich plasma hair restoration therapy for private fee-paying adults at its central Manchester location. The clinic also treated victims of burns and acid attacks, where treatment was funded and arranged through the provider’s involvement in charitable work. The service offered two hair transplant methods: Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) as well as scalp, beard, sideburn, eyebrow, and eyelash transplants.

At the time of our inspection the service employed 20 members of staff. We spoke with staff across all roles, including technicians, medical, and administrative. During the inspection, we visited clinical areas, including surgical theatres, consulting rooms, and the lecture theatre. We spoke with people using the service, observed staff interactions, and reviewed clinical notes and policies. We also reviewed data provided by the service following our visit.

We rated this service outstanding.

The service maintained robust safety systems, including effective infection prevention and control measures and safe management of medicines. Staff received training in safety and safeguarding, which helped prevent abuse and discrimination. They applied proactive risk management consistently in daily practice.

Staffing levels and skill mix supported safe care. Staff followed clear systems aligned with national guidance.

At the time of the inspection, there was no mandatory accredited qualification for hair transplant surgery in the United Kingdom. However, only doctors licensed by the General Medical Council carried out the surgical steps of the procedure. The doctors performing hair transplant procedures at the service held valid licences. One doctor also served as the registered manager and director of Advanced Hair Technology Limited.

Staff took a holistic approach to care planning, which included nutrition, hydration, and pain relief. They prioritised professional development through continuous training and supported people to manage their own health.

Leaders demonstrated compassionate and effective leadership. They promoted sustainable care and fostered a culture of innovation. Staff and people using the service contributed to service improvements.

Farjo Hair Institute delivered high-quality, safe, and compassionate care. Outcomes often exceeded expectations. The service’s leadership demonstrated a patient-centred approach, and commitment to innovation.
