During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 27 August 2026.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Tilecross Dental Practice is part of Bhandal Dental Group a dental group provider. The practice is in Birmingham and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice via a portable ramp and car parking spaces available, including dedicated council parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 4 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 17 staff, of which there were 5 dentists, 8 dental nurses (including 3 trainee dental nurses), 1 dental therapist, 2 receptionists and the practice manager. A sedation team visited the practice when required. We gathered feedback from and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection visit we spoke with the compliance lead, two dental nurses, a reception staff and a dentist. We also observed one person receive treatment and spoke to them after their treatment.

Following our visit we spoke with four people over the telephone so that we could get their views of the quality of service provided. All the people we spoke with were very positive about their experiences. They felt they were given enough information about their treatment options and were always asked about their medical history. One patient told us: 'They explain what's going on. They explain the costs.' Another patient we spoke with said: 'I had to fill a form in and say what medication I'm on'.

There were infection prevention procedures in place and nominated individuals to ensure they were being followed to minimise the risk of infection.

All the people that we spoke with told us that the staff were friendly. We saw that staff were trained and supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

There were procedures in place to monitor quality of service and identify improvements where necessary.
