Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this.

Staff were not aware of any barriers to care experienced by people using the service. Staff received equality and diversity training to give them an understanding of the context in which they worked.

People were able to make choices about the gender of their care workers and were supported to celebrate their religion and culture, although at the time of our inspection everyone living at the home was of white British origin. The home employed a diverse staff team however and the registered manager had provided assistance with sourcing accommodation and school support for their children.

There was an equality diversity policy in place to provide further guidance, including reference to protected characteristics in the Equality Act 2010. All the care plans we looked at provided the opportunity for people to share what was important to them if they chose to.

An easy read guide to services was available in pictorial format and could be provided in different languages if required.
