During an assessment under our new approach

Kidderminster Medical Centre is a GP practice located in Worcestershire. The medical centre is part of Wyre Forest Health Partnership which is a partnership of 5 GP practices: Bewdley Medical Centre, Church Street Surgery, Hagley Surgery, Kidderminster Medical Centre, and Stourport Medical Centre. Kidderminster Medical Centre delivers services to around 14,701 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The provider is registered with CQC to deliver the following Regulated Activities: Diagnostic and screening procedures; Family planning; Maternity and midwifery services; Treatment of disease, disorder or injury; and Surgical procedures.

The National General Practice Profiles states that the ethnic make-up of the practice area is 94.8% White, 2.6% Asian, 0.50% Black, 1.6% Mixed Ethnicities, and 0.50% Other Ethnicities. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 4th decile (4 out of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. The practice was previously inspected in 2024. We carried out a comprehensive inspection on 24th and 31st March 2026 and rated the practice Good in all domains and Good overall.

During an assessment under our new approach

Kidderminster Medical Centre provides care and treatment to 14479 patients. They are part of the Wyre Forest Health Partnership. The Wyre Forest Health Partnership consists of 5 sites including Kidderminster Medical Centre.

During our previous assessment on 11 October 2019, we rated the practice as requires improvement for providing responsive services. This was because results from the National GP Patient Survey showed patients’ satisfaction with how they could access care and treatment were lower than current local and national averages. At this assessment we found that significant changes had been made to improve patients’ experience of the service. The effect of these changes was reflected in the results of the 2024 National GP Patient Survey which showed 78% of patients described their overall experience of this GP practice as good which was above the national score of 74%.

Leaders had improved patients access to services using patient feedback and an evidence-based approach. This included using audits for quality improvement within the practice. This meant patients had a greater access to appointments at a time that worked for them.

During a routine inspection

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Kidderminster Medical Centre on 11 October 2019 as part of our inspection programme. The practice had not been rated since it had joined The Wyre Forest Health Partnership. The Wyre Forest Health Partnership consists of six sites including Kidderminster Medical Centre.

We based our judgement of the quality of care at this service on a combination of:

•what we found when we inspected

•information from our ongoing monitoring of data about services and

•information from the provider, patients, the public and other organisations.

We have rated this practice as good overall and good for each of the population groups. We rated the practice as requires improvement in responsive as the national patient survey data is below the CCG and national average.

•The practice provided care in a way that kept patients safe and protected them from avoidable harm.

•Patients received effective care and treatment that met their needs.

•Staff dealt with patients with kindness and respect and involved them in decisions about their care.

•The practice had identified 4% of their patients as carers. The practice supported carers by signposting to relevant organisations and all carers received their flu vaccines.

•The practice organised and delivered services to meet patients’ needs. Patients could access care and treatment in a timely way.

•The Patient Participation Group were positive about their relationship with the practice. They told us they felt supported, appreciated and valued.

•The practice had a focus on learning and improvement. We could see learning from significant events and complaints which was embedded across the organisation.

•The way the practice was led and managed promoted the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care.

However, there were also areas of practice where the provider needs to make improvements.

The provider should:

•Take action to ensure all Patient Group Directives are signed.

•Review uptake of cervical screening and childhood immunisations.

•Review their storage for emergency medicines to include an expiry date and to reset the fridge thermometer after each reading to ensure fridge temperatures do not go out of range.

•Continue to review and act upon patient feedback to improve experiences for patients.
