Whell Care is a homecare service which provides independent supported living to 1 person living in their own home. They also provide domiciliary homecare which has been assessed separately.

Staff knew people well and supported them in a way that promoted their safety, dignity, independence and wellbeing. Risks were assessed and managed, medicines were administered safely, and staff worked well with relatives and health professionals to help achieve positive outcomes.

Staff had received training to meet the people’s needs, including specialist health needs, and staffing arrangements supported continuity of care. Governance systems, including audits, competency checks and oversight of care records and medicines, helped maintain standards and support improvement. Overall, the service was well-led and committed to providing good quality care.

People's experience of the service

Relatives gave positive feedback about the quality and consistency of care. Relatives described staff as kind, respectful and responsive, and said communication with the registered manager was open and effective.

Staff knew people well. A relative said, “The staff team are consistent, which is what we wanted as [person] has complex health needs.”

Staff communicated with people in a way they could understand. Wherever possible staff supported people to make choices about how they were cared for. A relative said, “[The person] can make it clear when they want something or not, staff have learnt their communication style.”

Relatives found it easy to contact the registered manager. A relative said, “I speak to [the registered manager] and she puts it right, she is diplomatic.”
