Equity in access

Score: 4

The service was exceptional at ensuring people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.

The service made sure people could access care, support and treatment when they needed it. The service had performed better than the national average in the 2026 National GP Patient Survey in relation to how easy it was to contact the practice by phone. The practice achieved 77% which was significantly higher than the national average of 57%. The survey also showed 72% of respondents described their overall experience of contacting this service as being good, which was the same as the national average.

Feedback we received from people using the service was consistently positive about how easy it was to obtain an appointment. A new phone system had been introduced to improve patient experience. Patients told us they were always able to obtain a same-day appointment when they had an urgent need and were promptly reviewed for routine appointments. The appointment system showed a routine telephone appointment with a GP was available the following day. The practice also provided a nurse practitioner that supported GPs and GP Registrar with the management of urgent same day appointments.

Staff had made changes to improve access. This included the introduction of eConsult, a secure, form-based online platform that allowed people to contact their GP practice remotely. The service had identified that many of their patients preferred traditional methods of booking appointments, such as over the telephone or in person, so had continued to provide this service for people.

Since the last inspection, the practice had expanded its clinical space by creating an additional 3 consulting rooms from previously unused space. This had enabled the practice to increase capacity and support the delivery of Primary Care Network (PCN) services and GP Registrar clinics.

All treatment rooms were located on the ground floor; automatic doors had been fitted to the main and inner entrance to ensure ease of access to the service. Two designated disabled car parking spaces were provided.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who were most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes. Staff understood the importance of providing an inclusive approach to care and made adjustments to support equity in people’s experience and outcomes.

Staff followed processes to ensure people could register at the service, including those in vulnerable circumstances such as homeless people and Travellers. The practice was registered as a ‘Safe Surgery’ and was committed to take steps to tackle the barriers faced by many migrants in accessing healthcare to ensure nobody in their community was excluded. They also partnered with a regional mental health bus service that parked at the practice once a month to provide immediate, low level mental health support.

Staff used systems to capture and review feedback from people who used the service, such as the Friends and Family Test. This feedback we reviewed showed that people were extremely satisfied with the care and support provided.
