This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Shared direction and culture

Score: 3

The service had a shared vision, strategy and culture. This was based on transparency, equity, equality, human rights, diversity, inclusion and engagement. Staff and leaders understood the challenges and the needs of people and their communities.

We found that the vision and strategy for the service was something that all staff could share a view on and was kept under review. Progress against the delivery of the vision and strategy was something that leaders monitored and reviewed. Staff told us the culture within the workplace was friendly and staff could approach leaders if needed and get support when required. The service was aware of local challenges which affected their service, such as the projected increase in the local population over the coming years and worked with partner agencies to address these challenges.

Governance, management and sustainability

Score: 3

The service had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. They used these to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. They acted on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, and shared this securely with others when appropriate.

Staff knew their roles and responsibilities. Leaders proactively supported staff and regularly met with them to complete appraisals and performance reviews. However, we found that only clinical staff received regular supervision. This was discussed and we were assured this would be put in place for non-clinical staff as well. This will ensure all staff would get the opportunity to share concerns with their manager throughout the year on a formal basis. Governance processes were in place to ensure the service was managed appropriately and staff could access policies and procedures as needed. Regular meetings with staff, during which they discussed emerging risks and potential improvements to the service took place. Actions that arose from these meetings were noted so staff who were unable to attend could see later the discussion. Staff took confidentiality and information security seriously, which included verifying people’s identity during remote consultations. Staff submitted data and notifications to external agencies as and when required.
