During an assessment under our new approach

Date of Assessment: 16 May 2025 to 19 May 2025.

Ordsall Health Surgery is a GP practice and delivers service to 11,757 patients under a contract held with NHS England. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is 2. Population areas are divided into 10 groups (or deciles), numbered 1 to 10. The lower the number of the population group (or decile), the more deprived the population, relative to the local area.

This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and, how this impacted service delivery.

Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.

The Ordsall Health Surgery had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks.

The facilities and equipment met the needs of people, were clean and well-maintained and risks were mitigated.

There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care.

Staff managed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes.

Systems in place ensured blood and test results were responded to and delays in treatment avoided or investigated, particularly in relation to pre and undiagnosed diabetes and cancer treatment.

We found the provider took steps to promote workforce well-being. Leaders ensured the workforce shared and understood the vision of the leaders.

There were examples of outreach work and partnership working with local communities.

There was a strong culture of checking and auditing how well the practice performed clinically, and administratively.

28 October 2015

During a routine inspection

Letter from the Chief Inspector of General Practice

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Ordsall Health Surgery on 28 October 2015. Overall the practice is rated as good.

Our key findings across all the areas we inspected were as follows:

  • Staff understood and fulfilled their responsibilities to raise concerns, and to report incidents and near misses. Information about safety was recorded, monitored, appropriately reviewed and addressed.
  • Risks to patients were assessed and well managed.
  • Patients’ needs were assessed and care was planned and delivered following best practice guidance. Staff had received training appropriate to their roles and any further training needs had been identified and planned.
  • Patients said they were treated with compassion, dignity and respect and they were involved in their care and decisions about their treatment.
  • Information about services and how to complain was available and easy to understand.
  • Patients said they found it easy to make an appointment with a named GP and that there was continuity of care, with urgent appointments available the same day.
  • The practice had good facilities and was well equipped to treat patients and meet their needs.
  • There was a clear leadership structure and staff felt supported by management. The practice proactively sought feedback from staff and patients, which it acted on.

We saw one area of outstanding practice:

  • The practice had produced a selection of ‘self-help’ videos, designed to raise awareness and help patients self-manage certain conditions. The videos were displayed in the waiting area and also were available online.
