Governance, management and sustainability
The practice had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. They used these to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support.
All staff we spoke with were clear on their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders proactively supported staff and regularly met with them to complete appraisals.
The provider had established governance processes in relation to the quality statements we reviewed during this assessment, which were appropriate for their service. Staff could access all required policies and procedures, which were kept up to date and reflected latest guidance. Staff were supported to develop specialist interests and clinical skills. This enabled patients to access a broad range of expertise within the practice.
Patients gave positive feedback about the whole practice team, including GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, paramedics, reception staff and administrators.
We noted that the practice worked collaboratively with external partners, including the Integrated Care Board, local authorities, and other Primary Care Network colleagues to improve the population health and increase access to preventive healthcare. For example, the practice was part of the 2025 West Berkshire Woman Health Hub pilot and accepted referrals from neighbouring practices, contributing to the development of a new menopause pathway. Following the success of the pilot, funding was secured to establish a permanent service, and the practice submitted an expression of interest to become a Women’s heath hub.
We observed that systems for the secure management of prescription stationery required strengthening. The provider took immediate action to address this following the site visit by implementing improved monitoring and ensuring prescription stationery was stored securely and tracked appropriately.
