This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

Staff treated patients with kindness, empathy and compassion. The practice had arrangements in place to respect and promote people’s privacy and dignity.

Patients were offered a chaperone during intimate examinations. Previously, only clinical staff completed chaperone training. However, the practice had plans in place to give staff the opportunity for more in-depth training (to include sexual safety) on what patients can expect during intimate examinations. They hoped having all staff trained to chaperone will ensure appointment flexibility and availability for patients. The practice believed the specialist training will help all staff feel confident in ensuring patient dignity and safeguarding is always maintained.

The practice was in line with expected averages in the results of the 2026 GP Patient Survey. It showed patients felt listened to and were treated with kindness. For example, 85% of respondents to the survey felt the healthcare professional at their last appointment was good at treating them with care and concern.

This was mirrored in patient feedback we received during our assessment which described staff as “very friendly and helpful”, “understanding” and “very compassionate”. One patient told us, “Nothing is ever a problem for any of the staff.”

Scarborough Medical Group had several patients who were resident in a care home. We received only positive feedback from these homes as part of our assessment. One home told us that practice staff, “treat the residents with kindness and uphold their dignity at all times."
