This was a focused assessment. We undertook this assessment due to the length of time since our last assessment. We assessed 10 quality statements from across all 5 key questions. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.

Caring

Staff treated patients with kindness, empathy and compassion. They respected the privacy and dignity of patients.

Responsive

Patients could access care, treatment and support when they needed it. Leaders and staff were alert to discrimination and inequality that could disadvantage groups of people who used the practice. They sought ways to address any barriers.

Well-led

The practice had a clear vision and strategy which considered the needs of the people who used their practice and the wider community. Staff understood their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders accounted for the actions, behaviours and performance of staff through clear and effective governance processes.

People's experience of this service

As part of our assessment, we reviewed feedback from people who used the practice to understand their views and experience. This included speaking with patients using the practice at the time of our assessment and reviewing other feedback available to us.

We received both positive and negative feedback about Scarborough Medical Group. Many patients talked about access to appointments. Some patients were not happy about how the practice decided an appointment should be allocated and the time taken to be seen. Other patients felt they could always get an appointment when they needed one.

We found the practice was mostly in line with or exceeded national averages in the results of the 2026 GP Patient Survey. For example, 88% of respondents to the survey described their overall experience of Scarborough Medical Group as good, compared to the national average of 77%.

Patients also gave us positive feedback about the culture of the practice. One person said, “The staff at the practice have been fabulous.”

This sentiment was mirrored in the 2026 GP Patient Survey which showed most patients felt they were treated with care and concern at their appointment, and that they had confidence and trust in the healthcare professionals they saw.

Scarborough Medical Group had an active patient participation group (PPG) who represented the views of people using the practice. We talked to some PPG members who confirmed the practice listens to their views and any concerns.

We reviewed recent information shared by Healthwatch (an organisation which acts as a champion for people using health and social care services). We did not identify any concerning issues or trends.

An Integrated Care Board (ICB) is an NHS organisation in England responsible for planning and managing health services in a specific area. The local ICB provided positive feedback about Scarborough Medical Group, including that the practice is committed to delivering high-quality patient care.
