Well-led
We looked for evidence that the service’s leadership, management and governance assured high-quality, person-centred care and promoted an open and fair culture. At our last assessment, we rated this key question as good. At this assessment, the rating remains the same.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
The service had a shared vision, strategy and culture. This was based on transparency, equity, equality, human rights, diversity, inclusion and engagement. Staff and leaders understood the challenges and the needs of people and their communities.
The service had in place a vision and strategy that was reviewed on an annual basis and allowed for staff contribution. The leaders of the service also monitored their vision and strategy and amendments were made where required. The service was aware of local challenges which affected the care and treatment patients received and developed actions to meet them. Staff we spoke with mentioned the population increase in the area as a challenge that impacted the staffing of the practice. The service actively promoted equality and diversity and worked to identify the causes of any workforce inequalities. They demonstrated a positive and compassionate listening culture that focused on learning and development.

Governance, management and sustainability
The service had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. They used these to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. They acted on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, and shared this securely with others when appropriate.
Staff knew their roles and responsibilities. We found that the service carried out yearly appraisals and had an open-door working culture where staff could speak to managers whenever they needed advice and support. We found that clinical staff had regular meetings with the lead GP and a record of this discussion was kept. However, although non-clinical staff could speak with managers whenever they needed advice or support, there was no formal record of these discussions. The provider told us they would set up a more formal supervision type process where records would be kept on a more regular basis. The provider had established governance processes in relation to the quality statements we reviewed during this assessment, which were appropriate for their service. Staff could access all required policies and procedures, which were kept up to date and reflected latest guidance. Regular staff meetings took place and a record kept of the discussions for staff who were unable to attend the staff meeting. We saw that appropriate processes were in place, so confidentiality and information security was taken seriously. All staff used smart cards to access their workstations, and these were removed when they left their workstations and treatment rooms were kept locked when not in use. Management systems were in place so data and notifications could be submitted to external organisations as and when required.
