Ironbridge Medical Practice is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as a partnership provider in the Coalbrookdale area of Telford, Shropshire. The practice has a registered patient list size of 4,533 patients. The practice is part of NHS Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

The practice holds a General Medical Services (GMS) contract with NHS England. A GMS contract ensures practices provide essential services for people with health issues including chronic disease management and end of life care.

The practice is in an area considered as a fifth less deprived when compared nationally.

The practice unemployment level is 0% compared with the CCG average of 4.4% and the national level of 4.9%.

The percentage of the practice population with a long-standing health condition is 52% which is lower compared to local average and national average. (CCG 56% and national 54%).

The percentage of patients over the age of 75 is lower for the practice in comparison with the CCG and National average. The population covered is predominantly white British.

The practice staffing comprises:

  • Three GP partners (all female, one currently on maternity leave)
  • Two practice nurses
  • One Practice Manager
  • Two admin assistants (one current vacancy)
  • A team of five reception staff

The practice is open Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30am and 6pm. The practice offers extended hours service on alternative Tuesday evenings between 6pm and 8pm.

NHS 111 takes calls when the GP surgery is closed.

We previously carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Ironbridge Medical Practice in July 2015. The practice was rated as good overall. We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Ironbridge Medical Practice on the 12 November 2018 as part of our inspection programme.

At this inspection we found:

  • The practice had clear systems to manage risk so that safety incidents were less likely to happen. When incidents did happen, the practice learned from them and improved their processes.
  • The practice routinely reviewed the effectiveness and appropriateness of the care it provided. It ensured that care and treatment was delivered according to evidence- based guidelines.
  • Staff involved and treated patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
  • Some patients reported some difficulty with the practice’s appointment system within the CQC comment cards. The practices GP patient survey results however, were in line with local and national averages for questions relating to access to care and treatment.
  • Patients responded positively regarding how easy it was to get through to the practice on the phone.
  • There was a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels of the organisation.
  • The practice was a training practice and worked collaboratively with other practices within the locality.
