Well-led
We looked for evidence that the leadership, management and governance of the practice assured high-quality, person-centred care; supported learning and innovation; and promoted an open, fair culture. At our last assessment, we rated this key question as good. At this assessment, the rating remains the same.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
The practice had a shared vision, strategy and culture. This was based on transparency, equity, equality, human rights, diversity, inclusion and engagement. Staff and leaders understood the challenges, and the needs of people and their communities.
When it was being written we were told that all staff had contributed to the development of the practice’s vision and strategy. Leaders, managers and staff we spoke with were all clear that they wanted to give the best services possible to their patients. Leaders and managers additionally told us that within their approach there was also an emphasis on staff welfare and wellbeing.
Leaders, managers and staff actively promoted equality and diversity and worked to identify the causes of any workforce inequalities. They demonstrated a positive and compassionate listening culture that focused on learning and development. The practice had established processes in place to allow staff to feedback their views and concerns.

Governance, management and sustainability
The practice had established clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance processes. They used these to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. They acted on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, and shared this securely with others when appropriate.
Staff we spoke with were clear on their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders and managers supported staff and regularly met with them to complete appraisals and performance reviews. The practice had developed a business plan, and had identified key areas of activity which included estates management and succession planning. The provider had established governance processes in relation to the quality statements we reviewed during this assessment, which were appropriate for their practice. For example, core policies were in place to inform and guide staff, and these were available to staff to access when required. These policies and supporting procedures were kept up to date and reflected latest guidance.
Leaders held regular meetings with staff, and from minutes we reviewed we saw that during these meetings agenda items and topics included performance, changes to practice procedures, and significant events. Practice staff also collaborated with other stakeholders to effectively manage patients with complex needs such as those with safeguarding concerns, or those approaching end of life.
We saw evidence that the practice responded to staff feedback. In response to past concerns leaders, managers and staff had come together and developed a staff charter outlining expectations around staff behaviours and interactions with colleagues.
Staff took confidentiality and information security seriously, and we saw that staff had undertaken information governance training. Staff submitted data and notifications to external agencies as required.
At the time of our assessment the practice was in the process of appointing a new registered manager.
