This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
The practice had a shared vision, strategy and culture. The practice was a long-established GP practice which was growing in terms of GP partners. There was a clear vision and commitment to delivering caring, safe and high-quality care to all their patients in a patient-centred partnership with patients, their families and the local community. Although forward thinking staff told us traditional friendly primary care virtues remained central to everything, they did.
Staff and leaders understood the challenges and the needs of people and their communities. Leaders were aware of local challenges which affected their practice, such as the projected increase in the local population over the coming years and worked with partner agencies to address these challenges. Staff and leaders actively promoted equality and diversity and worked to identify the causes of any workforce inequalities. They demonstrated a positive and compassionate listening culture that focused on learning and development.
Staff described an open and supportive culture, where they felt empowered to speak up and raise concerns to help learn and improve. Staff we spoke with were positive about the culture of the practice.

Governance, management and sustainability
The practice had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. They used these to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. Leaders continually reviewed the sustainability of the practice and made changes to futureproof the practice. For example, increasing the number of GP partners and becoming a training practice.
Staff we spoke with were clear on their individual roles and responsibilities. Leaders proactively supported staff and regularly met with them to complete appraisals and performance reviews. The provider had established governance processes in relation to the quality statements we reviewed during this assessment, which were appropriate for their service.
Staff could access all required policies and procedures, which were kept up to date and reflected latest guidance. There was a GP responsible for providing effective leadership for the dispensary. The practice had clear Standard Operating Procedures which covered all aspects of the dispensing process, were regularly reviewed, and a system to monitor staff compliance.
Leaders held regular meetings with staff, during which they discussed emerging risks and potential improvements to the service. Leaders clearly recorded any actions that arose from these meetings and shared these with staff. Staff took confidentiality and information security seriously, which included verifying people’s identity during remote consultations.
