Parkgate Medical Centre is located at Netherfield Lane, Parkgate, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, S62 6AW. There is a branch surgery at Thorogate Medical Centre, Thorogate, Rawmarsh, Rotherham, S62 7HU.
The practice is registered with the CQC to carry out the following regulated activities - diagnostic and screening procedures, treatment of disease, disorder or injury, surgical procedures and maternity and midwifery services.
The practice provides NHS services through a Personal Medical Services (PMS) contract to 6,413 patients. The practice is part of the NHS Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) which is made up of 29 general practices. The provider has one male and two female GP partners and one salaried GP. The practice employs two practice nurses, a trainee nurse associate, a healthcare assistant and a phlebotomist. They were supported by a practice manager and a team of administration staff. The practice is an active member of the local primary care network.
The National General Practice Profile states that 96.2% of the practice population is from a white background with the remainder of the population originating from black, mixed or other non-white ethnic groups. Information published by Public Health England, rates the level of deprivation within the practice population group as two, on a scale of one to ten. Level one represents the highest levels of deprivation and level ten the lowest. Male life expectancy is 77 years compared to the national average of 79 years. Female life expectancy is 81 years compared to the national average of 83 years.

We carried out a desk top follow up inspection at Parkgate Medical Centre on 13 July 2020. At this inspection we followed up on breaches of regulations identified at a previous inspection on 12 November 2019.
We based our judgement of the quality of care at this service on a combination of:
- Documentation and information from the provider and information from our ongoing monitoring of data about services.
At the last inspection in November 2019 we rated the practice as requires improvement for providing safe services because:
- The practice did not have clear systems, practices and processes to keep people safe and safeguarded from abuse.
At this inspection, we found the provider had satisfactorily addressed these issues.
We have rated this practice as good for being safe and good overall.
We rated the practice good for providing safe services because:
- The fire risk assessment action plans had been updated and risk assessments had been undertaken for storage of hazardous substances.

A fire drill had been undertaken and staff had completed fire training.
Whilst we found no breaches of regulations, the provider should:
- Review the updated complaints procedure for patients and staff to ensure that it reflects the NHS complaints procedures.
- All staff to complete equality and diversity training.
- Continue to review the uptake of cervical cancer screening with a view to improving achievement.
