Shared direction and culture

Score: 4

The service had a very clear shared vision, strategy and culture. This was based on transparency, equity, equality, human rights, diversity, inclusion and engagement. Staff and leaders demonstrated an exceptional understanding of the challenges and the needs of people and their communities.

All staff had contributed to the development of the service’s vision and strategy, which was kept under review. Staff at every level understood the practice's values and explained how these ideas guide their daily work. Leaders monitored and reviewed progress against the delivery of their strategy. The service was aware of local challenges which affected their service, such as the projected increase in the local population over the coming years and worked with partner agencies to address these challenges. The provider was committed to understanding the patient population and addressing health inequalities, and adapted how they worked to support individuals and specific patients groups.

Staff and leaders actively promoted equality and diversity and worked to identify the causes of any workforce inequalities, giving staff from all backgrounds a real voice in how things are run. They demonstrated a positive and compassionate listening culture that focused on learning and development. Staff we spoke to told us the practice was a place where staff feel proud to work and patients get “genuinely kind, well-coordinated care.”
