People who used the service and their carers shared positive experiences about the service and support provided by the scheme. People told us they enjoyed living or staying with their carers and liked leading active lives. Comments included, 'They treat me like one of the family, I'm really happy and wouldn't have survived without them' and, 'My carer helps me from the bottom of his heart, we get on so well'.

People told us they met their carers before they stayed with them. Carers told us they received sufficient information about the people they supported before the placement commenced. This ensured they were able to meet people's individual needs. They felt they were well matched with people. Carers told us they were involved in developing a support plan with the people they supported based on their assessed needs and goals. People told us they attended meetings with carers and scheme workers to check if they were happy and liked where they lived or stayed.

Carers told us they had received training to keep people safe and to meet people's specific needs. They said they were well supported by the Shared Lives workers and the registered manager. One carer told us, 'I can't speak highly enough of the office staff. They are very professional and try their hardest to please everybody. They are brilliant'. Another carer said, 'I love my job. It's the best organisation I've ever worked for'. We saw carers received regular opportunities to meet up with workers on a one to one basis in addition to attending carers meetings.

People considered the service was well led. We saw there were systems in place to assess and monitor the quality of the service. People who used the service and their carers told us they had been asked for their views about the service by completing a questionnaire. Feedback gained from people who used the service, carers and health and social care professionals was overwhelmingly positive.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with nine people who had received a service from Intermediate Care Services. Everyone told us that they were very satisfied with the care and support that they had received.

People were involved and consulted in the planning of their care and said that care staff listened to them in relation to how they liked to have their care and support needs met.

People told us that the team met their personal care needs and provided good quality care and support. People were enabled to become and remain independent and this was important to them.

Communication among the various health and social care professionals within the team was considered to be a strength of the service as this enabled them to be responsive to people's needs and changing circumstances.

People were protected by a well trained and well supported staff team who were aware of people's needs and rights. Staff were described as 'wonderful' and 'caring'.

The manager regularly monitored and reviewed the service provided to ensure that they continued to offer good quality care. They used the outcomes of surveys and questionnaires to identify areas of best practice and 'room for improvement'.
