Prime Way Care Ltd London is a domiciliary care service. It provides personal care to people living in their own homes. At the time of our assessment, 72 people were receiving support with personal care. The service is registered to provide personal care to adults, children, people with dementia, mental health needs, sensory impairments and needs associated with substance misuse and people with a learning disability and/or a physical disability.

This assessment was carried out due to the length of time since the previous assessment on 23 January 2019. The service was rated good at the assessment in 2019.

We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. The provider was able to demonstrate they were meeting the principles of right support, right care, right culture. At the time of the assessment the service was not providing support for people with a learning disability.

The provider had systems for the investigation of incidents, accidents, complaints and safeguarding with lessons learned to make improvements shared with staff. Risk assessments were developed to provide staff with guidance of how to support the person. Medicines were managed safely and administered as prescribed. The provider had a recruitment process which enabled them to identify appropriate staff.

Assessments of people’s care needs were completed, and care plans were reviewed regularly. Staff completed a range of training courses to develop their knowledge and skills to meet people’s care needs.

Staff felt they were supported by senior staff and the registered manager. The provider working in partnership with other organisations. The provider had a number of audits they used to monitor the service and implement improvements when identified.

People's experience of the service

People and relatives felt safe with the care the service provided. People and relatives confirmed they were involved in the development and review of care plans and risk assessments.

People’s ability to make informed decisions about their care were assessed. People were supported by staff to make choices about their care, health and wellbeing. Their comments included, “[Staff member] asks for my consent, they involve me with everything. I have no concerns”, and “They always talk to [family member] about their care.”

People were supported by regular staff members and felt they had appropriate training. People were supported to attend medical appointments when required. People’s cultural and religious preferences were identified in their care plan, and staff were provided with guidance on how to support their wishes.
