Our view of the service

We carried out this assessment at St Marks Nursing Home on 2 June and 3 June 2026. St Marks Nursing Home is a nursing home providing care for up to 35 people, with 32 people using the service at the time of the assessment. The inspection was carried out due to the length of time since the last inspection.

Care planning and risk management were improving, but some further work was needed. Not all records clearly showed people’s risks or how staff were monitoring areas such as nutrition and hydration. Some information in the records was inconsistent, and oversight needed to be stronger. The provider had already identified these issues through an external review and had begun making improvements to strengthen record keeping and governance.

Medicines were managed safely.

There were enough trained staff to meet people’s needs and new staff were recruited safely.

The environment was clean, welcoming and generally well‑maintained, though some areas appeared a little worn. The provider was already working towards a redecoration plan, actively involving people who use the service in shaping how the space should look and feel.

Care was kind, personalised and flexible, with staff drawing on their knowledge of each person to shape and support people’s needs, choices and preferences.

There was clear evidence of engaging, person‑centred activities that nurtured people’s wellbeing and independence.

People felt managers were approachable and supportive.

People were supported to improve their independence and work towards returning home. One person said, “I can’t complain about anything, everything has been lovely… I am much more better off than when I first came in. They have got me ready for going home.”
