Coronation Road Dental Surgery

We had previously undertaken an on-site inspection on 7 April 2026 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions.

We found the registered provider was not providing well-led care and was in breach of Regulation 17 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

We undertook a follow up on-site inspection on 14 September 2026.

This inspection was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to confirm that the practice was now meeting legal requirements.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had systems to manage risks.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation.

Infection control procedures followed published guidance.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect.

The practice is in Bristol and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice, via a ramp, and car parking was available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 6 treatment rooms.

At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 32 staff, of which there were 7 dentists, 9 dental nurses, 5 trainee dental nurses, 4 dental hygienists, 5 receptionists a clinical manager and a practice manager.

We spoke with the practice manager.

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 7 April 2026.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

The practice had safeguarding processes, and staff knew their responsibilities for safeguarding.

Staff obtained patients’ consent to care and treatment in line with legislation and guidance.

We found shortfalls in appropriately assessing and mitigating risks in relation to the control of substances hazardous to health, emergency medicines, equipment maintenance and infection prevention and control.

The management of fire safety required improvement to ensure national guidance was followed.

Although recruitment procedures reflected current legislation, these were not always followed, and oversight should be improved.

Although there are issues to be addressed, the impact of our concerns relates to the governance and the oversight of the risks, rather than a patient safety risk.

We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 4 dentists, 2 dental nurses, 1 dental therapist, 1 receptionist and the practice manager.

The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 - Good Governance.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.
