During an assessment under our new approach
Date of Assessment: 15 and 16 April 2026. This assessment was due to concerns that had been raised in relation to consent and information sharing. However, these concerns were not substantiated during the inspection.
Charterhouse Care Home is a residential care home providing personal, nursing care caring for adults of all ages, physical disabilities and people living with dementia. At the time of the assessment 87 people were living at the service. We looked at all of the quality statements under the key questions safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.
The provider demonstrated a strong, values-led culture with a clear focus on delivering safe, person-centred, and high-quality care. Systems promoted safety, learning, and continuous improvement, with effective safeguarding processes and good partnership working to support people’s needs. While most areas of care were well managed, improvements were needed in medicines management to ensure consistent safety and oversight.
People received effective care based on thorough assessments, evidence-based practice, and strong collaboration with healthcare professionals. Monitoring systems supported positive outcomes, including improved independence and health.
Care was consistently compassionate, respectful, and tailored to individual needs, with staff promoting independence, dignity, and meaningful engagement. People and relatives spoke highly of the caring culture and responsiveness of staff.
The service was responsive to people’s needs. People had good access to services, facilities, and opportunities, with strong support for communication, equality, and future planning.
Leadership was visible, supportive, and inclusive, fostering a positive culture where staff felt valued and able to speak up. There was a strong emphasis on workforce development, equality, and wellbeing, supported by robust governance and community partnerships.
The service delivered consistently high-quality care with strong leadership, innovation, and person-centred practice.
