Anson Court is a residential care home providing care and support for up to 75 people. The home accommodates older people and people with dementia. At the time of the assessment 73 people were living at the home. This assessment was planned in response to concerns raised by 5 anonymous whistle-blowers. The concerns raised had been about low staff morale, staff not always being listened to and the registered manager’s lack of support towards staff. The home had recently recruited a new management team, this had a positive impact on the day to day running of the home. We did not identify any issues with staff morale. The site visit was completed by 2 inspectors. We assessed 4 quality statements within the 2 key questions of safe and well-led. We spoke with 2 people who lived at the home and 4 relatives. We spoke with 5 staff including the manager, deputy manager, and care staff. Following the site visit we sent a staff questionnaire and received responses from 44 staff members. Staff spoke overwhelmingly about the positive impact the new management team had on the home and the day-to-day care people received. However, we identified that some people did not always receive their personal care in line with their personal preferences. The manager addressed our concerns when we provided feedback. People were protected and kept safe. People’s health conditions and associated risks were assessed and managed safely. Staff told us the management team operated an open-door policy, and they were visible on the floor to help if required. People and staff told us they would feel confident to raise any concerns and these would be addressed appropriately.
