Our overall rating of responsive at Broomhill hospital has has changed to good for long stay or rehabilitation mental health wards.

• People were not consistently supported in a person-centred way. People, carers, and staff told us that therapeutic activities were frequently cancelled due to staffing shortages. This resulted in missed opportunities for engagement and meaningful activity, which impacted individuals’ well-being and choice.
• Staff demonstrating a commitment to involving people in decisions about their care.
• Effective discharge planning and strong partnership working supported positive outcomes for people.
• Although the provider investigated complaints, there was limited evidence to demonstrate how learning from these investigations was used to inform and drive service improvement
• The provider did not communicate effectively with staff during the hospital’s transition, leading to uncertainty that negatively impacted staff confidence and clarity about their roles and responsibilities.
• Leaders tried to involve people in their care.
