Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 21 May to 8 June 2026. Heathwood Care Home is a residential home providing accommodation and personal care for older adults and people living with dementia. The service can accommodate up to 29 adults. At the time of the assessment 27 people were living at the service. At our last assessment, we rated this service overall as good. We carried out this assessment to follow up on previous breaches of regulation identified at the previous assessment. We assessed 2 quality statements in safe and well led. The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulations of staffing and good governance. Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations. At this assessment, we rated this service overall as good.

Improvements had been made at the service to ensure it was safe and well-led. Revised governance systems effectively assessed and monitored the quality and safety of the service. Areas for improvement were identified and progressed. Staff were recruited safely and supported with an induction to the home when they commenced employment. Regular training and supervision of staff was conducted to ensure staff were competent in their role. A staff dependency tool had been introduced to ensure staffing levels were in line with people’s assessed care and support needs.

People's experience of this service

People were supported by kind and caring staff. A health professional said, “All of the carers are very respectful, patient and kind to the residents, and the residents are well looked after.” People were supported by a consistent team of staff who knew them well. A health and social care professional said, “Staff are around and available to people.”

Some people could not directly tell us about their experiences, which meant we spent time observing interactions with staff. We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI), a structured observation tool to help us understand their experience and assess whether they received good care. These observations showed staff were responsive to people’s needs and treated people with kindness, respect and dignity. We observed staff asking for consent before support took place and being attentive to any distress people experienced. People were facilitated to move around the home as they wished and had access to a safe outdoor area.

There was a happy and friendly atmosphere at the home. Staff worked as a team to be responsive to people’s needs. People’s visitors were welcomed at any time. People’s independence and interests were facilitated and encouraged. A health and social care professional said, “The [registered] manager is around and is approachable.” Relatives we spoke with confirmed this. A staff member said, “[The registered manager] is very good, trained me up and supported me.”
