At the inspection on 9 May 2025, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations:

The practice had improved their processes to identify and manage risks. The practice had carried out a health and safety risk assessment to identify and mitigate specific risks relating to the practice and had completed a risk assessment to assess and mitigate the risks associated with the use of sharps, in line with Health and Safety (Sharp Instruments in Healthcare) Regulations 2013.

The practice had fully assessed and mitigated the risks associated with lone working at the practice. The practice ensured that there were always 2 staff members trained to deal with potential medical emergencies on site at all times. In addition, all staff members had completed face to face medical emergency training in April 2025.

Cleaning products were stored securely, and all dental materials and cleaning products had up to date risk assessments. Safety data sheets were accessible to staff, in line with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002.

The practice had also made further improvements. The practice had taken steps to ensure all actions outlined within the electromechanical survey on the intra-oral and orthopantomogram (OPG) x-ray machines had been completed, including securing the OPG to the floor. In addition, we saw that the improvements we observed during our inspection on 7 March 2025 in relation to fire safety, had become embedded. Routine checks of the fire safety equipment were consistently logged in the fire logbook and staff had completed a fire drill, with evacuation times documented.

At the inspection on 9 May 2025, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations:

We observed the decontamination of used dental instruments and confirmed it aligned with national guidance issued by the Department of Health in the publication ‘Health Technical Memorandum 01-05: Decontamination in primary care dental practices’ (HTM01-05). The practice had introduced systems and processes to monitor the use of heavy-duty gloves and long handled brushes used to manually clean the instruments. The worksurface used to store the vacuum autoclave had been decluttered, to improve the dirty to clean flow to avoid cross contamination. A thermometer had been purchased to monitor the temperature of the water used for manual cleaning of the contaminated dental instruments, and a system had been introduced to ensure this was used routinely. The inspection team saw that all dental instruments were pouched in line with HTM01-05 guidance.
