Brighton Road is a residential care service that provides accommodation for up to 15 individuals with a range of needs including learning disabilities. Accommodation is provided over 3 floors with 2 lounges and a dining room on the ground floor with access to the rear garden. At the time of our inspection 11 people were using the service. At our last inspection in September 2017 the service was rated as good. At this inspection we found the service remained good.
We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. The provider was meeting the principles of right support, right care, right culture.
We spoke with the registered manager, the deputy manager, the area director and 4 care staff. We found people were protected from risk of abuse and risks to people were managed well. The provider had safeguarding and whistleblowing procedures in place and staff had a clear understanding of these. Robust recruitment checks had taken place before staff started working at the service. There were enough staff to support people and meet their needs. Risks to people had been assessed to ensure their needs were safely met. People received their medicines safely and as prescribed. Staff were trained in areas specifically related to peoples care needs and they received regular supervision from the registered manager and deputy manager. Staff told us the service was well managed, and they received good support from the management team. The registered manager and staff worked in partnership with health and social care providers to deliver an effective service.
