Date of Assessment: 22 and 23 April 2026. Harrier Grange provides accommodation with nursing care for up to 66 people. Accommodation is arranged over 3 floors with stair and lift access. At the time of this inspection there were 60 people living at the service. Our inspection was prompted by concerns received about how people’s needs were being met when their health deteriorated. This was a comprehensive inspection, and we reviewed all the quality statements. We found no concerns in relation to the care and support people received. However, we noted some improvements were needed to the monitoring and oversight of records.
People’s needs were comprehensively assessed and reviewed regularly. Risk assessments were completed, and care plans provided guidance to staff on maintaining people’s safety. We noted that some care plans we looked at had not always been updated when people’s needs changed; however, staff we spoke with knew people well and were able to tell us how they supported people. Staff were appropriately skilled, qualified, and experienced to meet people’s needs and demonstrated a good understanding of safe support practices. Safeguarding procedures were followed, and effective systems were in place to manage concerns. Records showed that people received enough food and drink to maintain their health.
Medicines were managed safely, and routine safety checks were carried out across the premises and on all equipment. Fire risks were assessed and appropriately managed. Incidents were thoroughly investigated by managers, and learning was shared with staff. Staff worked with other healthcare professionals and monitored people’s health to promote wellbeing.
The service was clean and well maintained, with staff following infection prevention and control guidelines. Staff reported feeling valued and respected and were supported to develop professionally. Overall, they spoke positively about their roles and the leadership team. One staff member commented, “[Registered manager] is approachable and a good listener. We can go into his office and discuss anything. [Deputy manager] is the same.”
