This means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence.

At our last assessment we rated this key question as good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.

We scored the service as 3. The evidence showed a good standard. The service made sure people’s care and treatment was effective by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them.

Managers told us they assessed clients before admission. A consultant psychiatrist completed a further clinical assessment and prescribed any medication required. This was completed virtually, and the consultant psychiatrist was available by telephone and video conference when required. Assessments included the service user’s health, care, wellbeing and lifestyle, to enable the service to plan care and treatment to meet their needs. Staff used SADQ (severity of alcohol dependence audit questionnaire) and Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol, (CIWA-Ar) to assess how severe people’s conditions were.  

The service required people to have up to date physical health assessments, such as blood tests, before they started treatment. However, in some cases blood test results were up to 6 months old and may not have offered the most accurate results.  

Staff told us they offered a holistic approach to rehabilitation considering medication alongside spiritual and cognitive needs.  

We reviewed 7 care plans. All plans used the same template which covered different parts of people’s lives. Staff had included sufficient detail but in 3 plans there were some strong similarities to each other.
