Listening to and involving people

Score: 2

Whilst the provider made it easy for people to share feedback and ideas, or raise complaints about their care, treatment and support. Staff did not always involve people in decisions about their care or tell them what had changed as a result.

Regular care reviews with people living in the home were not effective. Reviews did not demonstrate care plans had been properly updated and failed to document newly identified information from incidents. It was unclear whether people were actively involved in this review process.

Several feedback mechanisms were available. Regular resident and family meetings took place and there were survey forms and complaint forms easily accessible in the reception area. Relatives confirmed they knew how to make a complaint. One relative told us, “They do respond, to even the small concerns.” Complaints were recorded and dealt with in a timely manner, although not all responses and outcomes were documented.

Equity in access

Score: 3

We did not look at Equity in access during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Responsive.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

People who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes had their care, support and treatment tailored to prevent inequalities. The provider made sure that all people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.

The service was regularly visited by a range of health and social care professionals, helping to ensure people received coordinated care. One healthcare professional told us, “Staff here speak on behalf of people, especially for those with cognitive impairments.” This ensured barriers were removed for those people with communication difficulties.

Equipment was in place for those people with impaired mobility and for those people who required additional medical devices.
