Our view of the service

Assessment date: 9 January to 28 January. Parklands Care Home is a residential care home, providing accommodation for up to 30 people. People who live at the service include, older and younger adults, and people who may be living with dementia. There were 29 people living at the service at the time of the inspection.

The inspection was carried out to review the service’s rating due to the length of time since our previous visit. During the inspection we found that improvements has been made.

Care was provided by a staff team who were committed to ensuring people had a happy and comfortable life at the service. Staff knew people well and treated people with dignity and respect. The registered manager led by example, promoting good care standards across the service.

The service was homely and had recently benefitted from some updates in décor by the provider. Some areas of the service would benefit from renovation due to age. However, people told us the service was always clean and tidy. One person said, “Housekeeping is always busy and everything is immaculate when you go in.”

People were given their medication as prescribed by trained staff. The service was supported by a local team of health care professionals which included a regular GP and district nurses. Staff escalated health concerns quickly to help keep people well. One person said, “Any change in [person] and they are on it straight away.”

People had care plans in place to ensure people’s needs were assessed and recorded. Some areas of the care plans needed expanding to ensure these included details around people’s specific health concerns. However, staff knew people well and care was not affected. The registered manager immediately updated the care plans at the time of the inspection in response to inspector feedback.

The registered manager had oversight of any concerns in the service and analysed these events for common themes and trends. However, it was not always clear how this was reviewed and learning was shared with the staff team. The registered manager accepted the feedback provided during the inspection and planned to improve this.

Audits were taking place to help review the quality and safety in the service. The provider supported the service by completing their own reviews of care, supporting the registered manager in their role.
