Effective
Effective – this means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence.
At our last assessment we rated this key question good. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.
We assessed a limited number of quality statements in the effective key question and found areas of good practice. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the rating from the last inspection. At this assessment the rating has remained good.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Assessing needs
The provider made sure people’s care and treatment was effective by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them.
Assessing needs was a key part of the Registered Manager’s approach who was aware of the risks involved in admitting new people. Pre-assessments took place as well as visits to ensure a person would have a good experience at the service. People already living at the service were able to have some involvement in discussions relating to new people moving in.
Care plans were robust, consistent and co-produced. Consents were recorded consistently. Care plans were accurate and detailed; each was tailored to suit the individual and reflect their needs. The care records and handover notes were easy to understand for staff. There had been a recent change from paper to electronic records which had improved efficiency, reduced duplication and supported handover discussions. Staff said they were still getting used to the system but recognised its benefits. Staff were observed updating records using handheld devices and this information could be seen as having been transferred to care records.
