Caring

Good

18 June 2025

We looked for evidence that people were always treated with kindness, empathy and compassion. We checked that people’s privacy and dignity was respected, that they understood that they and their experience of how they were treated and supported mattered. We also looked for evidence that every effort was made to take people’s wishes into account and respect their choices, to achieve the best possible outcomes for them.

At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment we looked at only 1 quality statement. Therefore, the rating remains good. This meant people felt well-supported, cared for and treated with dignity and respect.

Staff felt well-supported in their roles. Staff were trained for their roles by accredited training providers and adjustments were made to support staff fulfil shifts where it was needed.

People’s experience

The service cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

Staff felt supported by their managers and colleagues within the service. Staff received training for their roles and were given opportunities to develop skills and progress within the service. Managers described using a personal approach when communicating with staff which was confirmed by staff. An employee assist programme was available for staff to access if they needed confidential, external advice. Staff felt and could confidently raise concerns with managers and they would be listened to. However, some staff felt feedback was not always provided. Managers and staff demonstrated their focus was on the wellbeing and positive experience of the patient. Patient feedback was shared with staff and indicated the kindness and empathy staff had shown to patients. Staff described making last minute adjustments to meet patient needs and shared any concerns or changes with managers.

Managers provided rewards for staff at various times of the year. This included snacks, cakes and drinks for staff on a Fun Friday or to cheer up a Miserable Monday.

Staff told us they were able to take breaks within their shifts although this was managed between staff and may be while the vehicle was in transit between patients. There were some occasions when staff started a shift less than 11 hours after their previous shift. This was potentially due to the last journey of the day running late and did not follow the service’s policy. However, staff could raise this as a concern with managers for future planning.
