Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last assessment we rated this key question Good. At this assessment the rating has remained Good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

We did not assess all the quality statements within this key question. We did not identify concerns relating to these areas which we judged as being met at our last inspection.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

People felt safe with staff. People told us they were treated with kindness, compassion and dignity in their day-to-day care and support.

People told us, “[Loved one] is always treated with kindness and respect, I do believe the carers really do care about their wellbeing’’ and ‘’The care staff are nice people, kind, caring, respectful and everything we could ask for.’’
Staff told us they ensured that people’s dignity and privacy were maintained. A staff member told us, ‘’We maintain dignity and privacy by always knocking before entering, ensuring personal care is done discreetly with doors and curtains closed, and allowing service users to make their own choices whenever possible.’’
 

Treating people as individuals

Independence, choice and control

People told us they were supported to have choice and control over their own care and to make decisions about their care, treatment and wellbeing.

People informed us that they were offered a choice when staff prepared meals for them.

Staff told us they supported people to maintain their independence. A staff member told us, ‘’We promote independence by encouraging service users to do as much as they can for themselves, offering support only when needed. We provide choices and involve service users in decision-making about their care.’’
