During an assessment under our new approach

Date of assessment: 9 December to 15 December 2025. St Annes Residential Care Home is a care home registered to support up to 19 people, with a variety of physical health needs. At the time of our assessment there were 16 people living at the service. This assessment was due to the care home being under new ownership and therefore not having a rating. Under previous ownership, breaches of regulation had been identified and as such we needed to ensure these matters had now been addressed. Significant improvements had been made, and the provider was meeting all of the required regulations.

People at St Annes were safe and protected from harm and abuse. Risks to people had been robustly assessed and were being managed. Some documentation around pressure care and medicines required improving, but the registered manager was receptive to all feedback and implemented additional measures immediately.

The service was clean, with regular checks of the environment carried out to ensure it was safe. This included regular checks of moving and handling equipment. There were enough staff with the right mix of skills, qualifications and experience. People were supported promptly and not rushed. We observed warm interactions between people and staff. Staff felt supported and spoke of improvements in the culture and atmosphere since new management had taken over.

Care records were person-centred and contained details of people’s preferences. People and their relatives were involved in decision making and felt their voices were heard. Complaints had been handled appropriately and opportunities to share feedback were frequent. Staff sought consent from people and if they lacked capacity, decisions were made in their best interests. People were encouraged to take part in a variety of different activities, which we observed them enjoying throughout our visit.

The home was under new management and everyone we spoke with told us about the positive impact this had. The registered manager was open, transparent and had a clear passion about continually driving improvement at the home. There was strong partnership working to achieve good outcomes for people.
