During an assessment under our new approach
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 2 June 2026.
We found the practice had met regulations.
The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
Recruitment procedures broadly reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
The practice is in Ventnor, Isle of Wight and provides predominantly NHS dental care and treatment for adults and children.
The practice was not wheelchair accessible due to the limitations of the premises. There were two steps at the entrance, and it was not possible to install a ramp safely because of the pavement layout. The treatment rooms were located on the first and second floors; however, a stairlift was available to support patients with mobility difficulties in accessing these areas. Patients who were unable to use the entrance or stairlift were signposted to an alternative dental practice that could better meet their accessibility needs.
The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 12 staff, of which there were 3 principal dentists, 2 associate dentists, 4 dental nurses, one of whom was the practice manager, 1 dental therapist and 2 trainee dental nurses. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 1 principal dentist, 1 associate dentist, 3 dental nurses, 2 trainee dental nurses and the practice manager.
