During an assessment under our new approach

Marigold House is a residential care home providing personal care for older people, including people living with dementia. At the time of our assessment, there were 44 people living at the service.
This was the first assessment of Marigold House since registering with CQC. We identified 3 breaches of the legal regulations concerning safe care and treatment, safeguarding and governance. We have asked the provider to submit an action plan in response to the concerns identified at this assessment related to safe care and treatment.
Safeguarding concerns had not always been recognised or reported appropriately. Risks relating to people's health and welfare were not always effectively assessed, monitored and reviewed. We identified concerns relating to medicines management, environmental safety, repositioning support and the accuracy of some care records. Governance systems had not always identified and addressed these concerns prior to our assessment.
However, there were also many positive aspects of care. Staff knew people well and demonstrated a good understanding of their needs, preferences and life histories. People were supported to access healthcare services when required and staff worked effectively with a range of healthcare professionals to support people's health and wellbeing. The provider offered a varied programme of meaningful activities and community involvement opportunities which promoted people's wellbeing, independence and social inclusion. Throughout the assessment, we observed kind and respectful interactions between people and staff. The provider was open and responsive to feedback and took action during the assessment to address concerns identified. A staff member said, “Management is very visible. [Deputy manager] is approachable.”
