During an assessment under our new approach
Date of Assessment: 9 June 2025 to 3 July 2025. The Weir Nursing Home is a care home providing personal and nursing care for up to a maximum of 35 people, some of whom were living with dementia. At the time of the inspection there were 24 people living at the service. The service was last inspected under the previous provider in May 2019 (published 18 June 2019) and rated good. This is the first assessment for this service since it registered on 29 April 2025.
The assessment was carried out to review concerns regarding the environment which we were made aware of whilst under the previous provider. We found the environment needed some urgent work to ensure it was safe for people. For example, hot water pipes were exposed, windows did not have suitable window restrictors in place and large items of furniture was not secure to the wall to prevent them falling over. These safety concerns had not been identified by the provider; however, they took immediate action following our feedback. The safety concerns demonstrated a breach of the Health and Social Care Act regulations; however due to the responsive actions of the managers to mitigate these risks, we did not take any enforcement action.
The provider was making progress to address the safety concerns that had been identified by the fire service and had commissioned external agencies to undertake risk assessments of the building to identify any further safety concerns which needed to be addressed.
Some improvements were required to ensure medicines were safely managed and care records were person centred and reflected the care and support that was provided.
The provider was receptive to our feedback and started implementing improvements quickly to mitigate any risk to people.
There were sufficient numbers of suitably trained staff deployed to meet people’s health and social needs. The provider promoted staff wellbeing and were visible in the service.
