Our view of the service

Rose Lodge and Holland House is a care home that supports adults of all ages, including those with living with dementia or physical disabilities. The service is registered to accommodate up to 47 people. At the time of our assessment there were 43 people living at the service.

We inspected this service due to the length of time since their last inspection.

The assessment took place between 29 October and 11 November 2025. We visited Rose Lodge and Holland House on 29 October 2025. This was a planned inspection, we looked at a selection of quality statements in all five key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

The service was consistently well run and delivered safe, caring and person‑centred support. Governance arrangements included regular audits with actions tracked through meetings and daily handovers, helping staff maintain consistent standards. Medicines were administered safely, with clear protocols and staff competency checks. Infection prevention was robust, supported by structured cleaning schedules, correct PPE use and visible hygiene practices. Staffing was stable and responsive to people’s needs.

People and their relatives reported prompt help and attentive support. Care planning reflected individual preferences and risks, including hydration, nutrition and mobility, and people were supported to pursue interests such as knitting, gardening, outings and worship. The registered manager was visible, approachable and worked alongside the team, acting on feedback to improve the service. Minor improvement opportunities were noted, such as enhancing dementia-friendly signage while respecting individual preferences. Overall, people experienced good outcomes, felt safe, and described staff as kind and respectful.

They described staff as kind and attentive, offering reassurance, practical support and quick responses to call bells. Several people valued flexible routines, choosing when to get up or go to bed, and whether to join activities. People enjoyed varied opportunities, trips to local towns and the coast, church services and communion, children’s visits, and one‑to‑one time with adjustments so those less able could join in. Across the visit, people consistently reported dignity was protected during personal care and that staff listened and acted on what mattered to them.
