Kindness, compassion and dignity
The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.
An external professional told us, “Feedback I have received from people placed there, and from families, has been that staff are approachable, kind and supportive.”
A staff member said, “The team consistently demonstrates compassion, patience, and a person-centred approach. Staff are committed to improving outcomes and ensuring the people we support feel valued and respected. The organisational culture is supportive and promotes continuous improvement.”
Treating people as individuals
The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.
We were given numerous examples of staff making meaningful and positive contributions to people’s lives. This included providing emotional support, assisting individuals to attend appointments, promoting daily structure, and encouraging independence. One staff member said, “The team is dedicated to ensuring that people feel safe, heard, and supported in achieving their personal goals.”
Another staff member told us how privileged they felt to support people to grow in confidence, learn new life skills, and become more independent. They told us, “Seeing the positive changes they make; whether it's getting more involved in the community, feeling better in themselves, or achieving personal goals, means a lot to me. It’s moments like these that remind me why the work I do is so meaningful.”
Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
We were told of many examples of people supported by Home from Home achieving positive outcomes. They made changes in their lives that they had chosen, such as returning to education. With encouragement, practical help, and emotional support, they built confidence, followed routines, and worked toward their goals, improving their wellbeing and independence.
Responding to people’s immediate needs
The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.
Care plans clearly explained how to support people and manage their anxiety or distress, this meant staff could provide a consistent support to help reassure people.
Workforce wellbeing and enablement
The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.
Staff told us they appreciated opportunities for development, such as being supported to undertake qualifications, this helped them grow in confidence and knowledge.
A staff member told us, “The organisation genuinely cares aboutproviding high-quality care and support for peopleand creating a supportive environment for staff.”
The provider supported the staff team not only to gain additional knowledge in the workplace, but also if they had any personal worries or concerns. They told us it benefitted the people using the service if they had a staff team who were confident in their roles and not fretting about external worries.
