During an assessment under our new approach
We assessed Bourne House Nursing Home between 20th August 2026 to 1st September. The service is a care home with nursing providing support for older people, including people living with dementia, mental health needs, physical disabilities and younger adults. This is the first inspection of this service following a change of care provider.
We found people received safe care and support from staff who knew them well and worked collaboratively with healthcare professionals. Medicines were managed safely, records relating to medicines were well maintained and risks to people’s health and wellbeing were assessed and monitored. The provider had safeguards in place to help prevent people from harms such as abuse or neglect.
We observed staff treating people with kindness, dignity and respect at mealtimes, supporting people patiently and promoting independence and choice.
The provider worked effectively and used evidenced based approaches to support people to live healthier lives and worked with other health services to improve outcomes.
Governance systems were in place and audits were completed, but oversight arrangements were not always effective in ensuring actions identified through audits, surveys and meetings were consistently monitored to completion, particularly during the transition between organisational governance systems. However, overall, leaders demonstrated a commitment to improvement to strengthen governance oversight and the quality of the environment to ensure consistently high-quality care. We discussed some environmental improvements with managers during our visit, who took immediate action to address these issues.
