During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 29 April 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had some systems to identify and manage risks.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Infection control procedures in place were effective.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our inspection, could access care, support and treatment when required.

The practice is in Lindfield, Haywards Heath and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our inspection, the practice was only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

There was step-free access and car parking spaces available at the front of the practice.

The practice had 1 treatment room. At the time of our inspection, the dental team consisted of 5 staff, of which there were 1 dentist, 1 dental nurse, 1 receptionist, 1 cleaner and the registered manager. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including the dentist, dental nurse, receptionist and the registered manager.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to the patients about the services they had received and they were very satisfied by their care. One of them told us, "He explains the benefits and any potential problems".

There were arrangements in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies. We saw evidence of recent training in basic life support for staff in July 2012. The practice had emergency equipment available including oxygen, airways and emergency drugs. We saw records of how staff checked the emergency equipment and noted that all of the emergency drugs were in date.

We observed that both surgeries were clean and uncluttered. The surgery was cleaned thoroughly between patients.

We asked how infection prevention had been monitored. The nurse told us that the Infection Prevention Society audit and records had been kept regularly as required by the Code of Practice HTM 01-05 and we were shown the most recent example of this.

Staff had been with the practice for a number of years and felt they were well supported; they said they felt they could seek advice and support from the dentist at any time if required.

We saw that patients' files also contained treatment plan records and letters which described in detail the fees payable for treatment and that these had been signed by the patient. People's personal records including medical records were accurate and fit for purpose.
