All Inspections

15 July 2013

During a routine inspection

We inspected this service with the assistance of a professional advisor who has extensive knowledge and experience of the service users group. We inspected against five outcomes: Outcome 1. Respecting and involving people who use services, Outcome 4. Care and Welfare of people who use services, Outcome 7. Safeguarding people who use services, Outcome 14. Supporting workers, Outcome 16. Assessing and monitoring the quality of service provision. All five outcome areas were compliant.

Most people living at Milligan Road had limited communication and were unable to answer direct questions about some of the essential standards we reviewed. We observed people and their interactions with each other and with staff. We saw staff communicate with people in their preferred way and this was different for each individual. We saw staff knew people well and would look at people who use services body gestures/movements to understand their needs. We found the provider monitored the quality of the service and had undertaken a review of the quality of the care treatment and support the service provides and its outcomes. We saw the current staff training programme was extensive and staff were provided a range of training that was based on the needs of people using the service.

During a routine inspection

Some people living at Milligan Road had limited communication and were unable to answer direct questions about some of the essential standards we reviewed. We observed people and their interactions with each other and with staff. We saw people playing table top construction games assisted by staff, taking foot spas, making birthday cards, and playing percussion instruments.

When we visited staff were well-organised and worked as a team to ensure people's care, and social needs were met. People were not left alone for long periods. Staff interacted well and were approachable.
