Caremark Thurrock is a domiciliary care agency providing personal care to adults living in their own homes. CQC only inspects services where people receive personal care, such as support with personal hygiene and eating. Where relevant, we also consider any wider social care provided. At the time of our assessment, 4 people were receiving support from the service. This was the service’s first inspection, and we carried out a comprehensive assessment.
Safe recruitment processes were followed to help ensure staff were suitable to work with vulnerable people. There was a consistent staff team who had received the training, support and oversight needed to meet people’s care and support needs safely.
People received safe, person-centred care. Assessments were completed before care commenced and people and their relatives were involved in planning support. Staff demonstrated a good understanding of people’s individual needs, preferences and risks, enabling care to be tailored to each person.
People were supported to maintain their independence. Care records and feedback showed staff encouraged people to do as much as possible for themselves and adapted support in line with people’s abilities and wishes.
Leaders were visible and supportive and promoted a positive culture for staff. Staff wellbeing was valued and people were encouraged to provide feedback about their experiences.
The provider had identified areas where governance, documentation and quality assurance processes required strengthening and had implemented a structured improvement programme. We saw evidence of improved auditing arrangements, increased management oversight, enhanced care planning processes and more robust monitoring of staff practice. Audits identified areas for improvement and actions were implemented and reviewed to supportcontinuous improvement. Care records relating to future planning were less developed, although this reflected people’s decisions not to engage in discussions about their future wishes at the time of our assessment.
