Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

This is the first assessment for this newly registered service. This key question has been rated good.

This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity.

People and relatives were happy with the care they received. One person said, “The carers are easy to talk to and talk about your problems. They are caring and will listen to you”. A relative confirmed, “I think they try to deliver good care to my relative”.

Staff were aware of how to treat people with kindness and compassion and gave examples how they supported people in a dignified way.

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences.

People felt they were treated as individuals. There were systems in place to ensure people were treated as individuals this included ensuring people were listened to and were involved with their care.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

People were involved with their care, and 1 person told us they felt their needs were met.

The registered manager knew people well and were able to tell us how people were involved with their care and made choices. However, improvements were needed to ensure care plans and records in place reflected this information.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes.

People and relatives felt their needs were responded to. One person said, “The carers are always there and will respond to anything more or extra I need doing”.

People’s needs were responded to promptly and when needed changes to how their care was delivered had been made. For example, changes in call times.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

The service only employed 1 staff member. The provider had access to an agency who could offer support if needed. The registered manager told us how important staff were to the running of the service; they shared the plans in place on how they would recruit and support staff as the service grew.
