All Inspections

During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 15 July 2026.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

The practice systems to identify and manage risks pertaining to fire safety, radiation safety, and infection prevention and control required better oversight.

Staff had not received adequate training to deal with medical emergencies.

Recruitment procedures did not reflect current legislation.

The practice infection control validation procedures for the decontamination equipment did not reflect published guidance.

Leadership required improvement to ensure a culture of continuous improvement. Staff provided care and treatment broadly in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

The practice is in Stubbington, Hampshire and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces were available at the practice.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 11 staff, of which there were 2 dentists, 3 dental nurses, 2 trainee dental nurses, 2 dental therapists, 1 dental hygienist, and the practice manager. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including the principal dentist, 2 dental nurses, 2 trainee dental nurses, 1 dental therapist and the practice manager.

The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.

The provider was not complying with Regulations 12 (Safe care and treatment) and 17 (Good governance) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008(Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.

During a routine inspection

We were able to speak to patients at Crofton Dental Care who told us that they had been treated with dignity and respect. They were happy with the care and treatment provided.

We spoke with six patients and they all made positive comments about members of staff. They told us they felt safe and had confidence in members of staff who treated them. One person told us, 'I am aware of my treatment and I was given options about it. They always tell me how much will it all costs.'

We found the premises to be clean and well maintained. There were arrangements for infection control and the organisation undertook daily cleaning tasks. One person told us, 'I am quite impressed with the cleanliness of this place.'

People were cared for, or supported by, suitable qualified skilled and experienced staff. Appropriate checks had been undertaken before staff began work.

There were quality monitoring programmes in place, which included people giving feedback about their care and treatment. This provided a good overview of the quality of the service provided.
