Our current view of the service

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 22 April 2026.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

The practice did not have effective systems to identify and manage all risks.

The practice did not have effective systems to ensure staff received appropriate support, training, professional development, supervision and appraisals.

There was a lack of effective leadership or culture of continuous improvement.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation

Staff treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

 

The practice is in Ryde, Isle of Wight and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 11 staff, of which there were 1 principal dentist, 1 associate dentist, 2 dental nurses, 2 dental hygienists, 2 receptionists, 1 decontamination technician, 1 bookkeeper and 1 cleaner. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including the principal dentist, 2 dental nurses, 2 receptionists and the decontamination technician.

The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008(Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection report.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.

 

People's experience of the service

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 4 patients. On the day of our inspection, we spoke with a further 4 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included:

“Friendly professional dental practice. They keep you informed of what they are doing during treatment. Have been a client at this practice for many years and have no desire to change”.

“l received excellent care from the dentist and his staff. He was very efficient and l was able to relax. This practice is friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Well done everyone”.

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

Patients said when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
