Our view of the service

Dunnock View Hospital is provided and run by Elysium Healthcare and provides an acute inpatient service for men and women, specialising in the assessment and treatment of individuals in crisis or suffering from a significant mental health problem.  This service was registered with the Care Quality Commission on 31 July 2024 and is registered to provide the following regulated activities:

Treatment of disease, disorder or injury

Assessment or medical treatment for persons detained under the 1983 Act.

Diagnostic and screening procedures.

Dunnock View Hospital consists of 3 wards:

Fieldfare Ward – Female acute – 14 beds

Pintail Ward – Female acute – 14 beds

Brant Ward – Male acute – 14 beds

We carried out an inspection of this service on 7 May 2025. At the time of the inspection, Fieldfare had 14 patients admitted to the ward and Brant ward had 12 patients. Pintail ward had recently opened on 24 April 2025 and had 6 patients admitted.

We carried out this inspection as it was a newly registered service that had not yet been inspected.  We looked at all 3 wards.

At this inspection we found that the service is performing well and is meeting our expectations.

The service provided safe care. The ward environments were pleasant, safe and clean. The wards had enough staff and ward teams had access to the full range of specialists to meet the needs of patients. Staff minimised the use of restrictive practices and followed good practice with respect to safeguarding.  Staff completed thorough risk assessments of wards and individualised risk assessments with patients and updated these regularly and/ or when risk presentation changed. Managers ensured that staff received training, supervision and appraisal and had developed strategies to boost staff wellbeing and recognise staff achievements. Feedback from patients and carers about the service was mostly positive. Most patients told us they felt safe, and that staff were caring and treated them with kindness and respect.
