SpaMedica Portsmouth is located in North Harbour Business Park, Cosham. The service opened in August 2024 and provides NHS and Private cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, and Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (YAG) laser capsulotomy services for NHS and private patients aged 18 years and over. Care and treatment are provided as day-case ophthalmology services. The service operated in a large space on the ground floor that comprised of outpatient areas for clinical review, diagnostic testing, and also a surgical area which contained an operating theatre.
SpaMedica Portsmouth operated the service location under the Provider SpaMedica. SpaMedica has locations throughout the UK offering Ophthalmic treatment and care. All policies and processes for this service are managed by SpaMedica Group. Staff at this service are contracted to work at all locations within the wider provider, this ensures consistency across all locations while maintain safe staffing levels.

We undertook this comprehensive assessment on 28 August 2025. This is the first inspection of this service. We assessed all quality statements across the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions and have combined the scores for these areas to give an overall rating. We rated the service as good.
This meant we found that:
Staff made sure patients understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. Staff treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. Leaders cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and was exceptional at supporting and enabling staff to always deliver person-centered care. Staff were exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy, and compassion.
The service was led by committed, passionate and focussed leaders who ensured patients were at the forefront of decisions made. There was a strong, visible person-centred culture. Patients’ individual needs and preferences were central to the planning and delivery of services. Patients were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks.
