During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 13 May 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

Infection control procedures in place were effective.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.

There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our inspection, could access care, support and treatment when required.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. However, these were not always followed.

Improvements were required to the systems to review and investigate incidents and accidents.

Rose Lane Dental Practice is in Mossley Hill, Liverpool and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 13 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 60 staff, of which there were 14 dentists, 1 sedationist, 1 orthodontist, 1 endodontist, 1 periodontist, 1 prosthodontist, 6 dental therapists, 3 dental hygienists, 17 qualified dental nurses, 5 trainee dental nurses, 9 receptionists and the practice manager. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 5 dentists, 4 dental nurses and the practice manager.

The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with seven people who had received treatment or were due to receive treatment on the day of our visit and they all told us they had been attending the practice for sometime. People said they had always been happy with their care and treatment at the practice. They told us they had been treated with respect. People said treatment options and costs had been explained and discussed with them before their treatment started. They said appointment times had been flexible and emergency appointments had been offered promptly. Staff were described as being polite, very friendly and helpful. Comments made by people who used the service included, ''I have been coming here for 30 years and wouldn't go anywhere else". 'My dentist is excellent and always talks me through the treatment and costs'. 'My children attend here too and they have never been scared about coming here'. 'They check my medical history at each appointment'.

People told us they had always felt safe at the practice and that they had no concerns. Everyone we spoke with said there had always been good standards of hygiene. One person said ''It's always clean and hygienic'.
